The
Travelers' Century Club has their
Official list of countries, totaling 317 (as of 01/03.) They note that some
locales are not actually countries in their own right; they have been included
because they are removed from their parent, either geographically, politically
or ethnologically (see their Country List below.) As for how long a traveler must stay in a country or island group to qualify, it was decided
that even the shortest visit would suffice--even if only a port-of-call, or a
plane fuel stop. This greatly widens the field and will give travelers a better
chance to qualify for the club. Anyone who has visited 100 or more of the
places listed is eligible to join the club.

CELEBRATING OUR 50 YEARS
|
Visiting 100 countries was an accomplishment most could only dream about 50 years ago. It took considerable time and money. But the idea of forming a club for those privileged few who had succeeded in this feat was born in Los Angeles in 1954. By 1960 there were 43 who qualified and became charter members. The first open meeting of the Travelers' Century Club was held a year later. Interest spread as did the ease of travel. Today there are over 1,500 members throughout the world. There are now 317 countries on the official list, with about 35 members having visited over 300 of these destinations. |
