More Nepal, February 2003…

Bamboo is still used as construction material. The frame of this building is entirely locally harvested bamboo

In front of the largest Buddhist Stupa in Nepal, the second largest in the world.  Jim is holding up a photo from the Austin American-Statesman of a scale replica of a stupa that was used as a publicity event for Wheatsville Food Co-op. This photo, with two stupas, later appeared in the Wheatsville Breeze.

Enormous prayer bells of the temple, weighing many tons and many centuries old.  Bells ‘n’ Buddhas!

Buddha eyes see all!

Local artists’ co-op

Beautiful Buddhist Monastery

The sign is actually intended to keep non-Hindus out. Note KPFT shirt.
